Are you really sure the word ?? (nakama) means sidekick in this context? I'm not a Japanese expert, but this word is used to express really close relationships (not romantically, mind you), so maybe that's why Matsumoto gets annoyed when Gilles calls him "Hamadas's nakama", as we all know Matsumoto is really disgusted by the "Buddy-buddy" moments with Hamada. If Gilles really meant to call Matsumoto a sidekick, he would use the word ?? (Aib?), no? Again, I'm not an expert, not shitting on your work, just an honest criticism, so correct me if I'm wrong.
